Course Syllabus and Outline

Month One: Leadership Over the course of our first year we will create, review, and challenge your formal Vision Statement and Strategic Plan.

Month Two: Management - We will introduce the three fundamentals of Management and the tool by which to assure their implementation: 1) the ability to clarify expectations 2) the ability to gain commitment and 3) the ability to select competent people to fill key management positions.

Month Three: Organization Building an Organization that will deliver Upper Quartile Performance will be the focus of month three.

Month Four: Compensation - UQL will help you develop a well-defined compensation strategy that will be added to your Strategic Plan – along with a practical and fair tool for reviewing and rewarding performance.

Month Five: Development of the Business Plan - UQL will introduce the building your Business Plan based on your Vision Statement / Strategic Plan.

Month Six: Identifying your Top Quartile Goals - In order to have a world class company, you must have the metrics to measure your performance. In month seven, we will focus on identifying and achieving your industry’s key metrics.

Month Seven: Project Management - We will introduce project management fundamentals that when implemented deliver on time and on budget results.

Month Eight: Growing your Business - In month eight, we will talk about the three ways a business owner makes money and the 6 key success factors that drive value in your business. We will help you analyze which of the six factors are present in your business and how you can maximize these factors to drive cash flow, growth and long term value.

Month Nine – Customer Service - The most powerful strategies will always have the consumer, rather than the product, as the focus. In month seven we will evaluate your strategies and discuss how well they are focused on meeting your customers’ needs and wants.

Month Ten - Effective Execution Effective Execution is the process through which leaders and managers can guarantee their success and the process by which you can predictably “Make Plan” every month, quarter, and year. You will have already been introduced to achieving accountability. “Making Plan” is how you will know your accountability processes are working. 

Month Eleven: Core Values - In month eleven we will focus on identifying the core values of your business and how you will communicate those values to your team, your vendors and your customers. Core Values drive “how” you will go about your work and your life.

Month Twelve: Succession Planning / Exit Planning – Of all the organization strategies, none is more important than Succession Planning. The succession planning strategy must not only identify the next CEO but extend to every position identified as critical to the company.
